Theodor Wilhelm Eduard (Theo) Lohmann was born in Leiden on 19th March 1880. Self-taught as a painter he was a particularly accomplished draftsman and engraver. Lohmann lived and worked in Leiden, from around 1908 in a gypsy caravan, The Hague 1915, Voorthuizen (com. Barneveld) 1917, Leiden until 1919 and from then on in Blaricum, at the Schapendrift, at the time nr. 9, later on re-numbered to 17 and subsequently to nr. 73.
For inspiration he undertook an extensive walking tour across France. Lohmann was a painter of land- and cityscapes (f.i. the ruins of the burnt down Town Hall in Leiden). Style: magic realism. Theo Lohmann died in Blaricum on 14th January 1963.
